It’s a method of self-coaching that involves creating three quick lists right away when I wake up. Decide in advance how many things you’ll add each morning to these three lists. Maybe start with just one thing per list. Make it doable.
Then watch the joy as you look forward to waking up!
Let’s see what this method deals with.
The first is a list of “sparkles” from the previous day.
These would be tiny moments that stood out as particularly joyful, colorful, or meaningful. Maybe I shared a great laugh with my teenage son. Maybe I loved the tiramisu after dinner. Maybe my beau brought me flowers and they brightened the day.
The second is a list of things I want to invite in on this new day.
This isn’t so much a list of things to do, but rather ways of experiencing life or end-results of my efforts. It could include things you want to get done, but it is more important to imagine how it feels. This might be things like effortlessly finishing the report that’s due, feeling refreshed and full of vitality, trusting my body at dance class, having a great connection with my mom.
The third list is all the evidence that you are living the life of your dreams.
This is about scanning our lives for ways in which we are living a good life we love. This might include things like happily celebrating your 25th anniversary, wearing clothes you love to work, having a child you love, the promotion you just got, the renovation on your house.
